On test day
A practical checklist for aptitude-test day
On test day, focus on decisions you can make in the moment. Use this checklist to organise your approach, and let the assessment’s own instructions take priority.
Settle the practical details before starting
Arrive or connect with the margin requested by the organiser. Have the required identification and permitted materials ready. If something is unclear or a technical problem appears, use the stated support channel before starting the timed section.
Read the instructions as part of the task
Check four things: what counts as a valid answer, how the score works, when the timer starts and whether you can skip or revisit questions. Do not assume that another test you practised used the same rules.
If there is a sample question, use it to check how answers are selected and confirmed. On paper, check how question numbers correspond to the answer sheet. Online, notice the difference between moving to the next question and submitting the whole test.
Use the clock as a checkpoint
A time plan is a reference, not a demand to spend exactly the same time on every question. Some items will take longer. Check your progress at a few sensible points rather than interrupting every step to watch the timer.
Decide what to do when you are stuck
If returning is allowed, use the test’s marking or review feature and move on when you have no productive next step. If returning is not allowed, make your decision within the available time before advancing.
For uncertain answers, use the published scoring rules. A penalty, a blank response and an unanswered required item can have different consequences. There is no single “always guess” or “always leave it blank” rule that fits every assessment.
Finish deliberately and review afterwards
If time and the format allow, check for omitted responses and selection errors before submitting. Change an answer when you can identify a concrete reason, such as a misread condition or a calculation error. Confirm completion using the platform’s instructions.
After a practice test, write down one thing to keep and one thing to change. For a real assessment, respect any rules about confidential questions: you can review your preparation and time management without copying test content.
