Before the test
How to prepare for an aptitude test
When a test is approaching, “practise more” is not much of a plan. Give each session a purpose: find out what to expect, identify what needs work and decide what you will check next time.
Find out what you are preparing for
Start with the organiser’s instructions or sample material. Note the question types, time limits, scoring rules and permitted tools. A practice app helps you rehearse skills, but it does not replace the instructions for your particular assessment.
Make a one-page checklist. If an important detail is missing, such as whether you can return to earlier questions, ask the organiser rather than choosing a strategy based on an assumption.
Give yourself a useful starting point
Try a small selection of the relevant exercise types. For each question, record whether you understood the task, found a method and completed it accurately. Those three notes are more useful for planning than a single overall score.
Choose one specific focus for the next session: reading conditions carefully, checking calculations or comparing each symbol. Keep a little variety in the rest of the session so that one familiar exercise does not take over all your practice.
Plan a session you can actually repeat
Choose a realistic slot in your day and include time to review. You can adjust the length to your schedule; the example below is simply a way to give each part of a session a job.
Turn an error into a next step
Write a brief note in this format: “I missed… Next time I will…” For example: “I missed the word except. Next time I will identify what the question asks before reading the options.” Try that check on a new question instead of memorising the old answer.
Rehearse the conditions and prepare the practical details
Once you know the methods, include a rehearsal using the published time limit and permitted tools. Afterwards, review where your plan stopped matching what happened. Change one part of the plan for the next attempt.
Before the day, check your location or access link, required identification and any equipment instructions. For an online assessment, complete any official system check early enough to ask for help. Leave room in your schedule for rest as well as preparation.
