Cognik

Your practice. Your data.

Privacy policy

Cognik stores your learning library on your device and, when you are signed in to iCloud, syncs it through your private iCloud account unless you turn sync off in Settings > iCloud. Help improve Cognik is on by default and sends limited exercise data to Cognik to improve exercises, difficulty calibration and scoring. You can turn it off in Settings > Privacy. It also measures first-launch, paywall and purchase outcomes and advertising campaign performance as described below.

1. Scope and contact

This policy covers the Cognik app and cognik.app. For privacy questions or requests about information you have shared with us, contact [email protected].

2. Your practice data

Cognik stores practice sessions, answers, saved questions, progress and preferences on your device to provide its learning features. You do not need to create a Cognik account. With Help improve Cognik enabled, the app sends exercise, answer, response-time and usage data, plus app and operating-system version information, to our service hosted by Amazon Web Services (AWS). These records use random identifiers rather than your name or email address; records within the same scope can be linked, so they are pseudonymous rather than fully anonymous. We use them only to improve Cognik’s exercises, difficulty calibration and scoring. AWS processes this data on our behalf. We do not sell it or share it for other companies’ own purposes.

3. iCloud sync

When you are signed in to iCloud, sync is on by default: completed sessions, progress and study settings sync between your devices using Apple CloudKit and your private iCloud account. Unfinished sessions stay on the device where you started them. Apple processes iCloud data under its own privacy policy. You can turn sync off in Settings > iCloud; this keeps the data already on your device and does not by itself delete existing iCloud data.

4. Purchases and Apple services

Apple handles payments. Cognik uses verified purchase records to check access and measure trials, purchases, renewals and refunds. With Help improve Cognik enabled, first-launch and paywall milestones and Apple Ads campaign, ad-group and keyword identifiers are linked to purchase outcomes through a random identifier. First launches are estimates of new installations, not download counts. We do not receive payment card details. If you choose what you are preparing for in Settings > Practice, that choice and your App Store country are linked to the same random identifier.

5. Advertising and measurement

Cognik shows no in-app advertisements and includes no tracking pixels or third-party analytics SDKs. We measure our Apple Ads campaigns using Apple’s AdServices framework and link campaign data to purchase outcomes as described above. With Help improve Cognik enabled, we also register app opens with Apple’s SKAdNetwork and AdAttributionKit so participating ad networks, including Reddit, can receive delayed, privacy-preserving install reports. These calls contain no user identifier, purchase details or practice data. Turning the setting off stops future calls; it cannot retract reports already handled by Apple. We do not sell your information or use your practice activity to build advertising profiles.

6. When you contact us

If you email us or choose to share an in-app feedback report, we receive your email address, message and any information or attachments you include. A feedback report may contain the exercise and answer details needed to investigate your question. Sharing is initiated by you. Your email provider and our email provider, Google, process the message to deliver and store it. We use it to respond and resolve support requests, keep it only as long as reasonably needed for that purpose or legal obligations, and you can request its deletion. After you turn off automatic renewal, Cognik may offer an optional cancellation survey. To check eligibility independently of Help improve Cognik, the app sends verified Apple app and subscription context, a random installation identifier, app version/build and language to our AWS service. Only Send shares your selected reason and optional note. Our team uses these to improve Cognik; please omit passwords and personal details. Feedback content on our server expires after 90 days. Minimal pseudonymous episode metadata may remain until the billing period ends plus 90 days to prevent repeat invitations. Copies shared with our team may remain longer and are not automatically removed by server expiry or app deletion. Contact us about deletion, including copies shared with our team. Answering or skipping never changes your remaining access. Turning off Help improve Cognik also queues deletion of feedback linked to this installation. Delivery requires a connection and deletion runs asynchronously; copies already shared with our team are not automatically recalled. You can also choose Delete purchase measurement and feedback in Settings > Privacy, even when collection is already off.

7. This website

This website uses no advertising, tracking cookies or contact forms. Its light or dark appearance automatically follows your device settings. Cloudflare hosts and delivers the site, provides traffic statistics and may process technical request data, such as IP addresses and request headers, to operate and secure its service under its own privacy policy. App Store links include a campaign label for the page language. Apple uses it to report aggregate downloads and other campaign results in App Store Connect; the label contains no personal identifier.

8. Retention, deletion and your choices

Collection is on by default. Turn off Help improve Cognik in Settings > Privacy to stop future collection and remove unsent exercise data; this does not delete data already sent. Deleting saved sessions in Progress or resetting progress also queues deletion of their exported exercise data. Requests wait for a connection, and server deletion takes place asynchronously. Reset covers this device’s exported history and sessions already known on the device; it cannot erase unknown history on another offline device. Raw exercise records expire under a one-year storage policy measured from their latest storage update. Minimal deletion safeguards are kept longer to prevent erased records from returning. Removing the app does not itself request server deletion or necessarily remove copies in iCloud or device backups; use the app’s deletion controls before uninstalling and manage Apple-held copies through Apple’s settings and support. Deleting the app or practice history does not cancel a subscription; manage subscriptions through your App Store account. For privacy requests, contact us. You may also contact your local data protection authority. Turning off Help improve Cognik also queues deletion of this device’s linked campaign and purchase analytics. Delivery and server deletion require a connection and run asynchronously. Purchase analytics expire after one year; minimal deletion safeguards are retained to prevent erased records returning. Purchase alerts already shared with our team cannot be recalled automatically.

9. Changes to this policy

We will update this page when Cognik’s features or data practices change and show the new date above. Material changes will also be communicated through the app or its release notes where appropriate.
