Gardien de la paix psychometric test practice for 2027

France’s Gardien de la paix recruitment exam includes two hours of mandatory psychometric tests covering cognitive ability and personality. Start with a worked example, then give yourself four minutes to try four original cognitive questions.

Cognitive ability and personality

The cognitive section uses timed exercises. The Police nationale lists reasoning, spatial ability, concentration, comprehension and vocabulary among the skills assessed. It describes the difficulty for this exam as roughly the level of the French baccalauréat.

The personality questionnaire asks about your usual behaviour and opinions. Answer based on how you normally act. The Police nationale describes this questionnaire as untimed.

The assessment carries no exam grade. The interview panel receives the results and has access to the psychologist’s interpretation.

The written exams also include a two-hour practical case exercise and two multiple-choice questionnaires, one on general knowledge and one on a foreign language. You have one hour for the two questionnaires combined.

Dates for the first 2027 session

Online registration closes on 18 January 2027 at 18:00 Paris time. The written exams are on 9 March, or 10 March in New Caledonia and Wallis and Futuna.

Check the recruitment route and posting option on your application. Use your exam notice to confirm the venue, time and instructions.

Worked deduction example

Identify what each rule requires. Then work backwards from the fact you know.

How to practise

For logic, look for a counterexample before picking an answer that says all or none. For spatial reasoning, note your heading after each turn before working out your net movement. For codes, compare characters in matching positions.

After the set, record how many questions you attempted and how many you got right. Redo one wrong answer or guess without the timer. If you solve it, identify the step that slowed you down. If you still miss it, revisit the rule with two fresh questions of the same type. On your next attempt, use new questions and keep the four-minute limit so you can compare results.

In Cognik, syllogisms train deduction, code comparisons help you spot differences and cube nets build spatial reasoning. The Annales section of the official external exam page has past case-study papers and example scripts for that separate written exam.

Four questions in four minutes

Set a four-minute timer. Record one answer per question and mark any guesses. If you get stuck, move on and come back if you have time left. Open the answer key at the end. Four minutes is a practice target for these original questions. On exam day, follow the instructions for each exercise.

  1. All sealed parcels are checked. No checked parcel is unlabelled. Some incoming parcels are sealed. Which conclusion must be true?

    1. All incoming parcels are checked.
    2. Some incoming parcels are unlabelled.
    3. Some incoming parcels are labelled.
    4. All labelled parcels are sealed.
  2. Start facing north. Move forward 2 squares, turn right and move forward 1 square. Turn right and move forward 3 squares. Turn left and move forward 2 squares. Where are you relative to the start?

    1. 3 squares east and 1 north.
    2. 1 square east and 3 south.
    3. 3 squares west and 1 south.
    4. 3 squares east and 1 south.
  3. Keep only rows marked Ready whose code differs from K7R4M2P8 in exactly two positions. Which pair gives all the rows to keep?

    1. K

    3. N
    4. L

  1. C. The incoming parcels that are sealed are checked and therefore labelled. That establishes C. To test A, imagine another incoming parcel that is unsealed and unchecked. It could have a label, which rules out D, or be unlabelled. Both cases fit the rules, so B is uncertain.
  2. D. You travel 2 squares north, 1 east, 3 south and 2 east. Turning left when facing south points you east. Your net movement is 3 squares east and 1 south.
  3. B. Rule out B and F first. Their codes differ in two positions, but their status is Pending. Among the ready rows, C swaps P and 8 in positions 7 and 8. E changes positions 2 and 6. A and H have one difference, D has three and G has none. Only C and E meet both conditions.
  4. A. Read every other letter. In odd positions, D, G, J, M move three letters forward. In even positions, Q, O, M move two letters back. The eighth letter is K.
